I’m running a half marathon in Brooklyn, NY on April 24, 2022 and will be dedicating this race to my late Grandma, Mary Ann Poczekay, who recently passed away.

Growing up, our family spent a lot of time at the Poczekay’s house over the holidays. I have a lot of fond memories of games we played, meals we ate, presents we opened, laughs we had, and trees I climbed. Also, Grandma was the first woman I ever met that was passionate about sports, she was part of the Athletic Department at Queen of All Saints for decades, so I couldn’t think of a more fitting way to celebrate her life than a race and also help fundraise for a condition that affected her for much of her life - polycystic kidney disease (PKD)

Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is a genetic disorder in which clusters of cysts develop primarily within your kidneys, causing your kidneys to enlarge and lose function over time. Over 500,000 people in the U.S. and millions globally are affected by this condition, yet it is still not well known/understood and there is no cure.

I’m running to raise awareness and funds to support the research of the PKD Foundation. The PKD Foundation is the only organization in the U.S. solely dedicated to finding treatments and a cure for polycystic kidney disease (PKD) and to improving the lives of those it affects. Since 1982, they have funded more than 1,300 research projects and leveraged $1.5B in research funds.
