Please join us in supporting our 8th grade field trip to Los Angeles, CA! Anpo Wicahpi Owayayawa (Pine Ridge Girls School) opened its doors in the Fall of 2016 to nine young women. The first all girls school on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, with 6th and 7th grades, will be graduating its first 8th grade class this year! Our school, an academically rigorous curriculum infused in the Lakota Culture, is seeking to send these students on an 8th grade field trip they will never forget; preparing them to enter into their high school careers, the students will visit UCLA in Los Angeles. The students have carefully planned and budgeted this trip so that they may become excited about college! The intention is to expose the students to college life on campus and for them to start preparing and thinking about where they would like to go to school in the future. In the last year and a half these students have participated in several protests, marches and became involved in the greater good for their Lakota people. They have learned traditional dances, songs and the life ways of the people through the school setting, ceremonies and sacred site visits. The students have recieved numerous awards throughout their short time at our school including winning first place at the Lakota Nation Invitational's Lakota Language Bowl!
