Petunia is a 6 week old baby pug, who was rescued by Pet Rescue of Mercer volunteers on the day she was born (2/17/21).  Petunia was born with a double cleft palate, which left her unable to eat.  Luckily, she found a wonderful foster home, with a veterinary technician who has the skills and patience to care for Petunia and bottle feed her, so she can grow and thrive!  Without being bottle fed, she would not have survived.  Now that Petunia is healthy, she can have surgery to repair her cleft palate and eat on her own.  Petunia's surgery and vet care will total about $1500 .  She is scheduled for surgery in April of 2021.  Our hope is that we can raise the needed funds in order to take the burden off of the rescue and ensure we can continue to help dogs and cats with medical needs!

More information about Pet Rescue of Mercer, Inc.: Pet Rescue of Mercer is an all volunteer, not-for-profit animal 501 (c)(3) rescue group based in Mercer County, NJ. PRM rescues neglected, abused, and abandoned animals from local shelters by finding quality homes for them.

Honey is a sweet, baby pug with a heartbreaking backstory and a bright future ahead.  Honey is about 7 months old and rescued when someone witnessed her draped over a man's shoulder on the side of the road, a rifle in his other arm. The man was preparing to shoot Honey when the rescuer intervened.  The story he told was that Honey had fallen down a hole, injured her legs, and could no longer walk.  Honey made her way to Pet Rescue of Mercer and is now safe in foster care!

She visited our vet who determined that Honey was born with a congenital deformity, she has no kneecaps in her back legs, making it impossible for her to walk normally and comfortably.  The good news is, this can be fixed with surgery on each of her back legs!  Honey will need to wait a few months for her growth plates to be fully formed and then our orthopedic specialist can repair her back legs. With time, therapy, and exceptional medical care, Honey will be able to walk for the first time!  

Honey's surgeries will total upwards of $4,000 when all is said and done.  She will be scheduled for surgery in March or April of 2021, when the surgeon has determined that her growth plates are set.  Regardless of funds raised, Honey will receive the surgeries and medical care that she needs.  Our hope is that we can raise the needed funds in order to take the burden off of the rescue and ensure we can continue to help dogs and cats with medical needs!
