Todd Morrish's Fundraiser for Parkinson's Awareness Month
Good friends,
As you may know, April is Parkinson's Awareness Month, so I am raising money to benefit PD Active, a non-profit organization by and for people with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) in Berkeley, Oakland and the East Bay, and beyond! We are a community dedicated to supporting the physical, cognitive and emotional well being of people with PD and their loved ones. I would be honored if you could join me. Whether you can give now or not, read on – maybe this organization could help you or someone you know.
The fight against PD is personal for me. I was diagnosed with Young Onset PD in 2017. PD is a progressive degenerative disease with as yet no known cure. Still, I have been working hard to do what my doctors think will give me the best chance to slow the progression of the disease. This means radically changing my diet, exercising, doing different types of physical therapy, and trying to stay socially engaged. Not to mention taking my meds! The journey led me to PD Active, where I’m a board member, the Chair of the Events Committee, and a consumer of their services.
PD Active’s core purpose is to serve and support people with PD and their families and care partners. PD Active aims to help people shift their lifestyles and mindsets from Parkinson's disease being an experience of disability to an experience of life. PD Active hosts Speaker Forums and Round Tables with experts, sponsors exercise and movement programs, and convenes nine different support groups for people with PD, their care partners and children of people with PD.
The PD Active calendar (https://pdactive.org/calendar/) is full with in-person and virtual programs, classes and events. And each week, sadly, new members from the greater Bay Area and beyond join the community.
PD Active was founded in the East Bay more than ten years ago and now serves a community of nearly 2,000 people locally and virtually. Donations make it possible for PD Active to provide critical and life-affirming programs to an ever-growing number of people affected by Parkinson’s and their families.
I hope that you will make a donation to PD Active. All of us on the Board are volunteers, and our costs are quite low, so I can assure you that your donation of any amount will be put to good use and will have a direct impact on PD Active and our community. Donations will go directly to PD Active. With your help, I am aiming to raise $7,000 or more, enabling PD Active to continue to provide movement classes, educational events, and support groups to our community FREE OF CHARGE.
Thank you for reading! If you know anyone with Parkinson's and could use someone to talk to in general, or if you would like to learn more about my journey or PD Active specifically, call or email me!
The PD Active website (www.PDActive.org) has additional information if you're interested in learning more.
Thank you! And take care.
~Todd
