My adopted dogs in the US are the lucky ones. The native dogs and cats of the Philippines, called Aspins and Puspins, however, are likely never to have a place called home. Many of them will die as strays or live out their lives in shelters and sanctuaries. A great majority of rescuers in the Philippines are low-income Filipinos. They barely have the funds to take care of food and shelter for the animals. Spaying and neutering, vaccinations are not affordable. Sadly, this perpetuates a cycle of pet overpopulation, straying, and the spread of rabies. It's heartbreaking for me to accept that these animals will live a life of homelessness, hunger, and sickness. Please help me reach the Aspins and Puspins and get them the preventive veterinary care they need. Vaccinations will keep them from getting infectious diseases, and spaying/neutering will decrease pet overpopulation, homelessness, straying, and hunger.

Wherever you are in the world, and you look back to your time in the Philippines, you will remember the aspins and puspins or the native dogs and cats.

Thousands of malnourished, sick, and homeless aspins and puspins roam the streets. To many of us, it’s an eyesore. But to these helpless animals, it is a miserable existence. We cannot turn our backs on them.

- 1500 pesos or $30 will spay/neuter a dog

- 550 pesos or $11 will spay/neuter a cat

- 250 pesos or $5 will vaccinate a dog or cat

The rise of strays is just a symptom of a more pressing problem—irresponsible pet ownership. Most strays were once family pets, whose owners let them roam or just couldn’t afford to keep them. And if these pets were not previously spayed or neutered, they will go on to breed and give birth to more unwanted puppies and kittens.

One unspayed dog and her mate can give rise to 128 offsprings in two years. One unspayed cat and her mate can give rise to as many as 67 offspring in just two years.

This campaign has the potential to keep 10,000 animals off the streets in two years!
