Bella - Building a Home in Bogota
Family friends,
As you know, Colombia is a deeply important place for me and my family as both my brother Daniel and I were born in Bogota. Our family's philanthropy always includes FANA, the orphanage from where my brother and I were adopted. This year I am also happy to support a new charity called Pathways to Children. They are the sponsors of an amazing service trip to Bogota that I will be taking over Thanksgiving week with a group of other students from Minneapolis. Pathways to Children is helping our group of Minnesota students (the majority of whom are from first-generation immigrant families) travel to Bogota where we will partner with 14 kids from the Codito neighborhood in NW Bogota in both service work and a cultural exchange. Codito is a disadvantaged neighborhood and our work there will be designed to provide assistance to people in need.
The Cause
For part of the trip our group will help on a home-building project in Codito. The cost of materials to build this home is very low by U.S. standards--only $2600. I am helping to lead the fundraising for this part of our trip. Building a home in this neighborhood will be especially meaningful for all of us as we’ll be able to see the end product of our work.
The Organization
Your tax-deductible donation will go to Pathways to Children, a 501c3 organization based in Minneapolis and dedicated to helping children in extreme poverty around the world. They will forward a receipt back to you for your records.
Where to Give
I set up a GoFundMe to easily keep track of the donations: Bogota Home-Building. Your donation will make this project a reality and help a homeless family secure shelter. It's a true gift to help everyone in our group involved make a positive, meaningful impact on someone’s life.
