PASSION FOR LIFE

Hi! I am a native of South Portland who started this non-profit to help get kids off screens. Our organization consists of 112 volunteers who introduce kids to 38 outdoor passions! So many of our kids have never been ice fishing, gold panning, rockhounding, canoeing, kayaking, metal detecting, clamming & so much more. We also introduce kids to careers in the outdoors, and provide education in many areas, teaching leadership, effective communication & financial literacy. I am incredibly passionate about all of it.

We are now partnering with middle schools, delivering a short, intermediate & long-term plan (after-school program) to get kids off screens, foster an appreciation for nature, introduce them to some really cool outdoor passions, build self-confidence & resiliency, and give them the framework needed for life success. How Many Hours Do You Think Kids Spend on Screens Today?

We Get Kids Off Screens and Into Nature, Introducing Them to Outdoor Passions-For-Life!

We face an unprecedented epidemic today – the indoors epidemic. Kids today spend less time outdoors than any other generation, spending on average over 7 hours a day on screens! Some studies say it’s closer to 9 hours!

This inactivity – this sedentary lifestyle & major disconnection with our natural world – is terrible for our children & communities. We are now seeing the impact social media is having on our kids. Kids on medication for anxiety and depression. Diabetes continues to skyrocket. Childhood suicide skyrocketing, increasing 300% in 10 to 14 year old girls. Human connectivity decimated. On top of all this, how can we expect our future leaders to protect the environment when so few of them develop outdoor passions?

The CDC and National Parks & Rec have been sounding the alarm, but the social media addiction is strong and kids continue to develop unhealthy lifestyles (a very unhealthy lack of outdoor activity).

We’re building an organization that has a very simple, efficient & effective solution – we introduce kids to outdoor passions! By working both smart and hard, we’re building a network of volunteers who share their outdoor passion with children. Fishing, foraging, boating, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, lobstering, hiking, mussel harvesting, clamming, birding, snowshoeing, smelting, ice fishing, skiing, and so much more. We foster more active, healthier kids, introducing them to passions-for-life that naturally combat the diabetes, suicide & human connectivity epidemics. These kids – our future leaders – will be all the more likely to be good environmental stewards.
