The Fuoco String Quartet
We are the Fuoco String Quartet. We are a high school-aged Los Angeles area string quartet that has been invited to the semi-finals of the Junior Division of the 2017 International M-Prize Competition.
The M-Prize (http://mprize.umich.edu/semi-finalists-2017.html) is the largest international chamber arts competition of it's kind in the world and is one of the most prestigious. Our next round(s) of competition will take place, May 1-4, at the University fo Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance in Ann Arbor.
We ask for your help to get there! What we need to cover is round-trip airfare from Los Angeles to Ann Arbor (tickets for four musicians, a cello, and an adult), transportation, and housing for the duration of the competition. Our best guess is that our expenses will be about $4000.
We are very excited about being accepted into this prestigious competition and hope you will partner with us and the Pasadena Music Conservatory to help us reach our goal.

Biography:
The Fuoco String Quartet, based in Pasadena, California, holds the position of Honors String Quartet at the Pasadena Conservatory of Music and is coached by distinguished teachers Andrew Cook and Aimee Kreston. The quartet recently won third prize in Pasadena Conservatory’s National Chamber Music Competition, and has been selected as one of five semifinalist string quartets to compete at the University of Michigan’s International Chamber Music Competition, M-Prize. The quartet was selected for Salastina Music Society’s Sounds Promising Program, where they perform alongside professional musicians Maia Jasper White, Kevin Kumar, Meredith Crawford and Peter Meyers, and will debut an original composition by Olivia Shue in the Spring of 2017. As the Honors String Quartet at the Pasadena Conservatory, Fuoco was selected to play on the school’s advanced student recital series, in a master class for the Solera Quartet, give concerts for donors of the conservatory and contribute to Art Night Pasadena this Spring.
While studying privately at the Colburn Community School of Performing Arts, each Fuoco member has earned notable individual achievements, including Natalie’s first prizes in Southern California’s Junior Bach Festival and London’s Great Composers Competition, Amy’s first prize in the Classics Alive Young Artists Competition, and Claire and Andy’s first and third prizes in LA’s ASTA solo competition. Members have appeared as soloists with many outstanding orchestras including the Palisades Symphony, Santa Monica College Orchestra, Santa Maria Philharmonic, the New World Baroque Symphony, San Luis Obispo Youth Symphony,
Eastern Sierra Symphony, and the Dream Orchestra. Fuoco members also play orchestrally in groups including the Colburn Youth Orchestra, the Colburn Chamber Orchestra, American Youth Symphony, Debut Orchestra, and the Crossroads School Chamber Orchestra.
The quartet’s name, Fuoco, translated from Italian, means fire. The Fuoco String Quartet embodies the uniqueness of fire, provoking both its calm nature and its intensity. They share their love and joy of chamber music and the classical repertoire in a way that enlivens the classics for today’s audiences.
