First and foremost, thank you so much to everyone who have contributed to support families in need in Myanmar. We have heard from those on the ground and in local news interviews that funding has declined and many families across the country are still in need. So we are opening another fundraiser in hopes of raising more funds.

On Feb 1st the military overthrew the elected civilian government in Myanmar, my home country. Since then, the citizens of Myanmar carrying out peaceful protests, in conjunction with the general strike of many civil servants, have been met with violent crackdowns by the military. To this day, May 4, almost 770 people, including children, have been killed by the military and around 3,700 people, including journalists, unlawfully detained (https://aappb.org/). On March 27, over 100 people were killed across the country and included children as young as 5 years old, while the military celebrated armed forces day. On April 11, over 82 people were killed in the city of Bago. Bodies were piled, the injured were denied medical care, one injured man was dragged with his hands tied to a moving motorcycle (he died) and families were being charged $85 to retrieve the bodies of loved ones.

Despite this power imbalance, where the citizens’ voices are being answered by bullets, the people of Myanmar still courageously continue to make their demands peacefully for a return to democracy. There are many areas where your donations (which will be tax deductible) can help support the people of Myanmar no matter the amount! A lot of people in Myanmar make less than $5 a day so I promise you I mean it when I say every little bit helps. As I was donating to different causes, I saw that there was a vast need for more. Your donations will contribute in support of the causes below: - Medical expenses - Low income families in need of food - Other needs - For the safety of all involved we cannot post the details on how the funds will be distributed but please feel free to reach out to us for details.

As I’m sure many of you have seen in the news, on Feb 1st the military overthrew the elected civilian government in Myanmar, my home country. Since then, the citizens of Myanmar carrying out peaceful protests, in conjunction with the general strike of many civil servants, have been met with violent crackdowns by the military. To this day, almost 701 people, mostly youth, have been killed by the military and around 3,000 people, including journalists, unlawfully detained (https://aappb.org/). In what was the bloodiest day of the crackdown so far, there were 38 people systematically murdered, including teenagers, as soldiers and police fired into crowds of peaceful protesters. My family and close friends know I don’t cry often but I must admit that I have shed tears frequently in the last month.

Despite this power imbalance, where the citizens’ voices are being answered by bullets, the people of Myanmar still courageously continue to make their demands peacefully for a return to democracy.
