Parrots First

Meet Lola. Lola is a beautiful greenwing macaw that was purchased years ago by a family looking for a pet. The family quickly tired of the noise and the mess that a macaw makes and put Lola in their basement. Lola was subjected to many long days which turned into years of isolation. She was left with nothing to occupy her mind and turned to plucking her feathers. When the family became embarrassed to even show her to family and friends she was sold to a breeder. Lola was not given a choice of choosing a mate but was paired with a greenwing male.  Lola produced many babies to be sold over the years, and when she stopped producing babies she was again sold. A young man bought Lola and thought he could take care of her. He was in an apartment and in order to ensure that Lola did not chew anything she was barricaded in a corner of a room. Fortunately for Lola the man's girlfriend called Parrots First and Lola's new life began

 Parrots First has been rescuing , rehabbing and rehoming birds for 25 years.  Parrots First has always been there for the really tough cases like Lola.  Often we have taken in birds that other organizations would have declined to help. We have taken in crippled birds, blind birds and even birds with inoperable tumors. Often we have accepted birds knowing that we would only be providing hospice care for them. 
Recently Parrots First has been able to open a facility to house macaws that like Lola have no other options. Many of these birds are former breeders and are old. These birds will stay with us for the remainder of there lives.
So many of the birds that come to us have never known a healthy diet or toys. So many have never seen a vet. The funds we raise will go to making sure this changes for them.
It is impossible to give these birds the life they truly deserve, but with your help we can make it so much better.
