UPDATE BELOW - 16TH NOV 2025
Our ten-year-old son, William, was deeply moved during our holiday in Paphos by the sight of so many vulnerable stray cats at the Aliathon holiday village – many pregnant, some injured, and all hungry. Inspired by their plight, William is determined to make a difference.
We're fundraising to support Paphos Purrs SCIO 052400, a registered charity founded by Devon and Rob (who relocated from Edinburgh) Their crucial mission is to stabilise the hotel's cat colonies through Trap Neuter Return (TNR) – a humane process of sterilising, providing essential vet care, and returning the cats to their home at the hotel. Their work is supported by Paphos Cat Patrol HE454935, a Cyprus charity led by Natalie and Marcello. They tirelessly focus on Trap-Neuter-Return and provide urgent medical care for many sick and injured cats across Paphos.
Government funding for TNR in Cyprus is very limited so most activity falls to charities and kind hearted individuals who rely solely on donations.
With thanks to TNR expert, Luanne from Fishing for Felines who helped partner with Paphos Purrs to sterilise the first 52 cats.
Here’s an update on the incredible work your support will help continue:
We wanted to share an update on all the hard work happening at the resort. We've been busy, and thanks to your incredible support, we've managed to sterilise a fantastic 87 cats! It's a huge win, especially with so many females included in that number.
We've prevented so many kittens from being born into a difficult life, but we're also facing a new challenge. As winter is upon us the hotel has reduced numbers in guests and it’s the prime time to sterilise. Our next big push is to sterilise the remaining kittens. Our rough guesstimate is 20 cats left to sterilise.
We have spent the entire fundraiser of £1,240 as of 15/11/25. €300 was donated from the hotel and Paphos Purrs funded our first 37 cats who were sterilised. Our funds are now spent. This is where we're asking for your help. Would you be willing to:
* Share our mission and fundraiser with your network?
* Sponsor a cat and cover the cost of their sterilisation? €60 per female & €35 per male.
* Get creative with a fundraiser of your own, like a bake sale or a charity event at work?
This is where your help is so vital. Due to the sheer number of cats, our fundraiser couldn't cover all their additional medical needs. Paphos Purrs stepped in to fund this critical care, saving lives like these:
* Rosie: She was suffering from a severe upper respiratory infection and gingivitis. Paphos Purrs funded her antibiotics and dental surgery, where five teeth were removed. She is now recovering well and happily back home in the resort.
* Ziggy: We found this tiny kitten in a critical state. He was treated for a severe blockage and later diagnosed with Giardia and parvovirus. Thanks to the care he received, Ziggy made a full recovery and is now looking for his forever home!
* Bowie and her family: When we spayed Bowie's mum, we identified that she and her four kittens weren’t quite right. They all had Giardia. Paphos Purrs took the sickest runt of the litter Bowie into care and mum and the three kittens stayed with Anabella to ensure they received their treatment. While Bowie is still receiving more intensive care for her illness, her mum and three sisters have now made a full recovery and have been returned to the resort.
Your donations did fund tests for Granny Alita, an older cat who hangs out around the Ice creams shop Haägen-Dazs. We discovered she is FIV positive, but her bloodwork is stable and she has a great appetite. After a week in foster care with Anabella for a much-needed bath and grooming, she is now back in the resort being monitored.
It's been a tough but rewarding time, and we're so happy to share that many cats from the resort have already found homes, with a lot of interest in sending them to the UK! These adoptions require fosters, testing, flight fees, and pet passports to keep the cats safe.
Your help is the only way we can keep going and get ahead of this. Thank you for making a difference!
