We're facing an urgent and heart-wrenching situation. Yesterday we embarked on a deeply challenging mission to rescue numerous goats trapped in a distressing hoarding nightmare.

Initially, the owner began with just a handful of pet goats, but unfortunately, they didn't take the necessary steps to have them neutered. As a result, the goat population spiraled out of control rapidly, and without YOUR support today, this distressing situation will persist and worsen.

As is often the case in such heartbreaking scenarios, the owner had severely underestimated the number of goats they had. Instead of the expected 26, it ended up being a staggering 58 female goats (we haven't even had the opportunity to address the male goats we had to leave behind. The owner's severe underreporting of the goat count has left us facing an overwhelming and dire circumstance). This sudden influx has dramatically escalated our anticipated expenses in our mission to aid these helpless animals.

In our mission, we've joined forces with two other remarkable sanctuaries, Broken Shovels Farm Sanctuary and Rescued Friends. Together, we are providing loving foster care for all of these goats in need.

At OutPaws Sweet Home Sanctuary, we've welcomed 47 goats, mamas and their babies, into our sanctuary, where they will receive critical veterinary care. Your support is desperately needed now more than ever to help feed them, vet them, and provide comfortable bedding for their stay.

We'll need temporary shelters for the pregnant mama goats, hay priced at $40 per month per goat, veterinary care for all the goats, transportation for relocating them to out-of-state adopters, and fresh bedding.

These goats will become available for adoption soon, and we'll keep you posted with additional details regarding the adoption process. In the meantime, we'll need your support in raising the critical funds necessary ASAP to provide these deserving goats with feed and medical attention. Yesterday, we received word of a dog in dire need. Freya, a 1 1/2 yr old mixed breed, was seen by a vet last week in such horrible condition that the vet told the owner to either euthanize her or relinquish her if they could not provide needed medical care. Freya had been “accidentally “ shot by her owner back in February. She had buck shot throughout her chest which had fragmented her thoracic vertebrae, fractured her left humerus and done other damage they were not able to determine. Basic care was provided to stabilize her but follow up treatment was needed and never provided. At the time of her injury, Freya had no vetting history and had not been provided basic vaccines or spay. Since the shooting in February, she had no reflexes or use of her hind end and her bladder had to be expressed but there was no follow up diagnostics or treatment to determine what injury was causing this or whether it could be repaired or improved. As a result of her injuries, she was only able to drag herself around with her front legs (and fractured shoulder). Last week her owner finally took her to a vet with an ulceration of her hind leg that was horribly swollen and infected. The vet was told they could not afford any diagnostics or treatment at which time the vet reached out to multiple organizations trying to get help for the dog and advised the owner to either relinquish or euthanize and not to allow her to remain suffering with no medical treatment.

Freya is now in our care and we have begun treating both the swelling and infection in her hind leg and are trying to schedule an orthopedic consultation as soon as possible to find out if anything can be done to treat her injuries from February or whether it’s too late (and if it’s too late, whether we can hopefully provide quality of life with her disabilities to provide her the happily ever after she so deserves). We do not currently have emergency medical funds sufficient to cover the kind of diagnostics and treatment she will need and we need YOUR help. Help us show Freya that not all humans are unkind and help us give her hope and a future.

We’ve had a rough two weeks with lots of unexpected medical bills and emergency vet visits here at the sanctuary. Last week, our sweet disabled girl Freya began urinating blood and it was determined she has a UTI. Vets say that unfortunately this may be a regular battle we will have to fight since she cannot eliminate on her own.

Then, our precious 3-year-old Marvel who came to us as a duckling suddenly developed severe neurological symptoms. X-rays show no orthopedic injuries and our avian vet was stumped. We are providing supportive care and waiting to see if he will improve day by day.

Last night, we noticed baby Gatsby wasn’t eating and seemed lethargic. Upon examination his belly was swollen and he had a high temperature. We rushed him to our vet’s home that evening. She is treating for the most threatening possibilities first but hasn’t ruled out pneumonia as a possibility. Gatsby is quarantining in the house where he is getting round the clock care.

And on Saturday, our naughty boy Joni had a surprise tantrum in the house while the animals were all being fed and tucked into bed. He unfortunately ingested some gloves and other items of clothing and is now at North Springs Veterinary ER with a blockage. We are hoping conservative treatment will remedy Joni and will post an update if and when surgery becomes necessary.

It's been a challenging couple of weeks here at the sanctuary. From Freya's ongoing UTI complications to Marvel's sudden neurological symptoms, and now little Gatsby's health scare and Joni's blockage, we've faced one emergency after another. We urgently need your support to cover the mounting medical bills and ensure that all our residents receive the care they need to recover.
