Anyone who follows our rescue knows that we rarely post Gofundme accounts unless there is an extremely unique situation. This happens to be one of those times. On 9/22 we adopted out a wonderful puppy named Archie to a lovely family. Prior to his adoption he received a cut on his head, so off to the vet he went and received 2 stitches. But a few days after he was adopted Archie started scratching his stitches, so off to the Emergency vet they went. Unfortunately, this was the first of 3 vet visits in the next few days as Archie started developing random hematomas (pockets of blood under the skin). The third visit provided news that no new puppy parent would ever want to hear. The vet feared that he had a blood clotting disorder and he needed to be rushed to Tufts University in Massachusetts. So the amazing family who had welcomed Archie into their home just 12 days prior made the 5 hour round trip drive to Tufts.
Tufts determined that Archie did in fact have Hemophilia and he needed a plasma transfusion. After the transfusion and spending a few days at Tufts he was allowed to come home yesterday. We were all hoping that he was on the mend, but unfortunately Hemophilia took Archie's life this afternoon.
It is devastating to the family who fell madly in love with Archie in just a few weeks. It is also difficult because the last week has resulted in over $3,800 in vet bills for a puppy that is no longer around to bless their lives.
This wonderful family didn’t hesitate once to get him the care he needed. But that is a huge strain on any family’s finances and to be honest, they shouldn't have to carry the burden for a recently adopted pup that didn't survive. As a rescue, it would be difficult for us alone to help them with the financial burden. So we are hoping and praying that our supporters would feel it in their hearts to donate toward his care.
