Otero County Law Enforcement Appreciation

Officer Richard Wakefield has been diagnosed with cancer. He is currently undergoing tests and treatments out of state. Officer Wakefield served 4 years in the Air Force and was deployed from 2003-2005 once to Kyrgyzstan and once to Iraq.  After his service to our country his dream was to become a police officer and in 2006 he started his law enforcement career with the Alamogordo Police Department. In 2009 he joined the  Air Force Reserves /Security Forces and deployed again as a reservist in 2013 to Kyrgyzstan and 2017 to UAE.  His total service with the military amounted to 14 years while also serving 14 years with the Alamogordo Police Department. Officer Wakefield is the father of 3 children. 

What do we do when a police officer needs help?  We rally and come to their aid.  An Alamogordo Police Department officer was told cancer was discovered. A large mass was found on the kidney and now must undergo treatment out- of -state for an undetermined amount of time.  As we all know police officers don’t make a lot money and insurance only goes so far.  Travel expenses, hotel costs and other expenses are not covered by insurance and must come out of the family budget.  Fellow officers have reached out on this officers behalf to ask for help. 

Whatever you can do to help will go a very long way in helping this officer to fight this  dreadful disease and help to pave  the path  for a gentle journey to recovery.  Please keep this officer in your prayers.
