Medical Mission Trip to Guatemala 2018
The Family Medicine Residents in Manchester, CT would like to raise money to help a public hospital located in San Marcos, Guatemala. As part of our Global Health Track we aim to eliminate cultural miscommunication, enrich resident experience, and recognize causes of subpar care and work towards their resolution.
The money raised will be used to purchase medical supplies, equipment, to pay for hospital repairs/updates. We would like to provide better equipment and update the facilities that will directly change and save lives. Last year during this fundraiser we met our goal and were able to help purchase EKG machines, vital monitors, BLS and ACLS training manikins, and begin repairs on the Intensive Care Unit. We will be working directly with OSSA , an non-profit organization that has been doing great work for the San Marcos Hospital for over 5 years!
In January 2019, a group of residents and medical students will travel to Guatemala on our 2nd annual trip to work directly with the residents at the San Marcos hospital to teach proper hygiene techniques, share clinical skills, and learn the cultural differences to practicing medicine. Our goal is to partner with OSSA to educate and respectfully introduce new techniques to prevent infections at the hospital and improve patient care and outcomes.
In October two Guatemalan residents were hosted in Manchester, CT as well. They were able to experience many departments at Manchester Memorial Hospital, work with our family medicine residents, and experience some American culture as well. Our hope is to continue this exchange so that both residencies can continue to learn from each other.
This is our 2nd annual fundraiser and it is the goal of the family medicine residents in Manchester, CT to make this fundraiser, the medical mission trip, and the resident exchange a permanent fixture as of our residency so that future residents have the opportunity to expand their minds through learning global medicine.
Please note that we are using a 501C3 non-profit organization OSSA and all donations are tax deductible! Furthermore 100% of the funds are going towards medical supplies, equipment, and renovations! Please help us in our goal and if you have any questions please ask!
THE OVERALL GOAL WILL BE $10,000. AS WE RECEIVE OFFLINE DONATIONS THE GOAL WILL BE LOWERED TO REFLECT THE OVERALL AMOUNT LEFT TO REACH $10,000.
