Can you imagine searching for a job, or a place to live, when you can’t even take a shower?
When you feel clean, you feel better. That’s a fact, a universal human truth. But unfortunately, it’s not so universal for everyone - especially here in Portland, where homelessness is a real and visible crisis. It’s a personal, community, and public health challenge for all of us.
In response, Oregon Harbor of Hope is looking to bring mobile showers, washers, and dryers to Portlanders without homes. Two 28-foot-long box trucks - retrofitted with 8 private showers and 10 washers and dryers - will operate five days a week with stops scheduled at schools, churches, and encampments across the city.
Oregon Harbor of Hope is a nonprofit focused on developing systems of care to meet the broad needs of those who live chronically unsheltered and without homes in Portland.
Your donation will help keep these shower and laundry trucks running for one year. At a maintenance cost of $150,000 each, our goal of $300,000 will ensure each truck is able to provide showers, clean laundry, haircuts, soap, towels, personal need kits, underwear, and warm socks to all who visit. Every $25 donation will guarantee a weekly shower for 4 Portlanders without homes. Every $50 donation will guarantee a weekly shower for 8. Every $100 will guarantee 16. Every $250 will guarantee 32 showers.
