Wildfire Relief Fund for Hospice Staff
In early September, unusually high winds and continued dry weather caused the rapid expansion of multiple wildfires in Oregon. Over 1,000,000 acres spreading across 14 counties have burned; some fires are out, many are still being contained. About 40,000 people were evacuated, with another 500,000 people in evacuation warning areas. Statewide, at least 23 people have been killed.
Across the state, our hospice provider programs have worked fervently to secure the safety of their terminally ill patients and their families, working with other hospice programs in relocating hospice patients to safer cities, sharing valuable resources and medical supplies with each other. Some of these hospice heroes lost their homes and businesses as wildfires ravaged through their community. Some lost family, friends and livestock.
The Oregon Hospice & Palliative Care Association (OHPCA) has established the Wildfire Relief Fund for Hospice Staff to provide financial assistance to those individual hospice team members who have suffered catastrophic loss during the wildfires while making sacrifices to care for others.
Any donation amount will help make an impact. 100% of proceeds of the Wildfire Relief Fund for Hospice Staff will be distributed to hospice staff members in need that work for OHPCA member hospice provider programs. The OHPCA will provide an update in the next few months about the distribution of funds raised. Thank you for your contribution to this cause that means so much to this organization, its members and its Board of Directors.
