Paws of Love For Jaime's 20th Birthday
Turning 20 years old is a time in one’s life that should be filled with excitement and anticipation for what the future holds. For us, this day is just another reminder of what won’t be for our daughter. Instead of lighting up birthday candles or giving life advice, we prepare for another year of her absence.

Shortly after Jaime was taken from us, we decided we wanted to do everything we could to keep her memory alive by reminding everyone how kind, compassionate and driven she was. We created Orange Ribbons for Jaime in her honor. Our mission is to support the causes that were important to Jaime in life as well as causes that deal with the way her life was tragically cut short. This includes donating to organizations related to dance, children with special needs and dogs. Jaime’s love for dogs and passion for helping others inspired our new initiative “Paws of Love”. This program, in partnership with Moss Creek Goldendoodles, provides free puppies to eligible individuals and families affected by gun violence in an effort to provide unconditional love and companionship. In addition, Orange Ribbons for Jaime pays the expenses for the puppy’s first year of life including food, vet bills, pet insurance, dog training, grooming and more.

Jaime, although your story was cut way too short, we will never forget you and promise to continue making the world a better place, just as you would have.

Celebrate Fred's Birthday, Support Our Programs
It's that time of year again, another year around the sun and a time of reflection, not just from the standpoint of what I have been able to accomplish but more so about all that I want to do in the future.

The future is very different than I thought it would be. My family has a void and we miss our beautiful girl, Jaime. It's crazy to think that it has been almost 6 years since everything changed when my daughter, Jaime, was murdered in the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas in 2018.

Last year I committed that every year moving forward I would celebrate and do so in ways that include honoring the memory of Jaime. For the last several years we have been awarding Scholarships to deserving students of ALL abilities. To date, we have given more than $150,000 in scholarships and continue to support this program. Last year we decided to add a new program in honor of Jaime’s love of dogs and that’s exactly what we did!

My wife and I started PAWS OF LOVE in 2022, in partnership with Moss Creek Goldendoodles, to help support families like ours who have been directly affected by gun violence. Since our dogs played such a big role in Jaime's life and our healing process, this program pairs families with furry friends to make indelible paw prints, during what will be one of the most difficult times of their lives.

We are thrilled to announce that, thanks to your generous support, we have been successfully matching adorable puppies with incredibly deserving families. Knowing that we are impacting these individuals' lives positively gives us comfort that we are honoring Jaime's legacy.

Through Paws of Love, not only does the recipient receive a puppy free of charge, but the first year of care is free as well. This includes vet bills, pet insurance, grooming, training, food, a crate, toys, and more! We also keep in touch with every recipient to make sure things stay on track with their new puppy.

Orange Ribbons Dad Birthday Fundraiser
As my birthday approaches, I find myself reflecting back on all the things that have happened in the last year, and all the things I want to see change in the future.

Birthdays used to involve celebrations with my family. My wife Jen and my amazing kids Jesse and Jaime would always make a big deal. Not anymore. Almost 5 years ago, everything changed when my daughter, Jaime, was murdered in the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas in 2018. For the past few years, I simply could not celebrate. However, this year and going forward, I plan to celebrate again and to do so in ways that include honoring the memory of my daughter Jaime and her love of her dogs.

After Jaime was murdered, it was our family dogs Charli and Cooper that helped our family to heal. In fact, at the time of the shooting Cooper was only four months old. Knowing how much our dogs meant to us, and to Jaime, has us taking on a new mission.

Recently, my wife and I started a new initiative called PAWS OF LOVE, in partnership with Moss Creek Goldendoodles, to help support families like ours who have been directly affected by gun violence. Since our dogs played such a big role in Jaime's life and in our healing process, this program will pair families with furry friends to make indelible paw prints, during what will be one of the most difficult times of their lives. In addition to the dogs, we will also provide everything that is needed for the first year with the new dog.

Honoring 19 Years of Jaime
On Wednesday, July 13th, we should be celebrating 19 years of Jaime… instead, she remains 14 forever in our hearts… her legacy lives on through the work we do - giving back to others just as she would have if she were still here.

From feeding families affected by the gun violence tragedies in Buffalo & Uvalde, providing scholarships to help kids further their education post high school, and supporting causes that meant so much to Jaime, over the past 4 years we’ve been making strides in creating change for other families, helping them live their hopes & dreams.

Jaime – your spirit will always remain alive and on your 19th birthday, we promise to continue our mission to honor your memory!

In Honor of Jaime's 18th Birthday
As parents, each milestone that passes by only reminds us of all the things that we will not get to experience with our daughter. And while we cannot bring Jaime back, we are determined to keep her legacy burning bright.

Our hearts are filled with mixed emotion, as this year, along with her 18th birthday, would have been her graduation from high school, and the beginning of her next chapter, as she should have been starting college this summer. And while we are excited for all of Jaime’s friends, it also reminds us of all the things we will never see Jaime realize.

What we focus on now is #ForeverJaime - keeping her legacy alive and helping those that Jaime would have wanted to help if she were still here. Through our scholarship program and community givebacks, this is what we strive to do.

Although we would love nothing more than to have Jaime’s presence, in lieu of presents, please donate in honor of what would have been Jaime’s 18th Birthday.

ABOUT ORANGE RIBBONS FOR JAIME

On February 14th, 2018 our daughter Jaime Guttenberg, along with 16 other victims, was tragically murdered by a troubled former student at her high school in Parkland, FL. She was only 14 years old.

Following the tragedy, we formed Orange Ribbons For Jaime (ORFJ), a 501(c)3 to honor our daughter by supporting causes important to her in life, but also causes that deal with the way her life was tragically cut short.

Another Birthday Without My Daughter...
Birthdays are a time of reflection, a time to take stock of all that has happened in the year and a time for dedicating myself to the things I want to do or change in the year ahead.

For me, birthdays are counted now by how many I have had without my daughter. Time moves forward, but the pain is always there even if it sits just below the surface.

My birthday is a reminder to stay steadfast and focused on my mission. As mass shootings such as the one in Michigan continue and become normalized, our need to help others that find themselves in an impossible situation only grows.

For my birthday this year, I only wish for you to support the foundation created in my daughter’s memory, so we can continue to honor her and help others just as she would.

Proceeds will be used for our new initiative that will help support people in need after they have been through the unfathomable– the loss of a loved one to gun violence.
