On June 27th, Willow arrived at One of A Kind Pet Rescue from a rural community near the Ohio-Kentucky border. After spending the past two years surviving on her own, Willow’s story is finally taking a hopeful turn.
Locals had seen Willow wandering the area and believed she had been hit by a car about a year ago—since then, she’s been moving with a damaged back leg. When she recently appeared to be expecting puppies, concerned residents reached out for help. While some suggested returning her to the streets after spaying, we knew this resilient mama deserved more. Much more.
We welcomed Willow with open arms, determined to give her and her babies the care and comfort they need. X-rays confirmed that her leg injury is severe and will eventually require amputation. But those same X-rays revealed something amazing too—ten puppies on the way!
Despite facing challenges from heartworm, Lyme disease, ehrlichia, and a heavy infestation of fleas and ticks, Willow has shown nothing but strength and sweetness. And on June 30th, she gave birth to ten beautiful puppies.
The journey ahead is long, but we’re committed to seeing this family through. Willow and her pups will need extensive care—including 11 spay/neuter surgeries, 11 microchips, 33 vaccines, 33 de-worming treatments, preventatives, antibiotics, formula for bottle feeding, and puppy food for the months to come. Willow will also undergo heartworm treatment and surgery to remove her damaged leg once she’s strong enough.
Their future depends on compassionate hearts coming together to help. With your support, Willow’s story can continue as one of healing, hope, and happy endings.
Please consider donating to One of A Kind Pet Rescue to give Willow and her ten puppies the second chance they so deeply deserve.
