Okizu Foundation

Hi everyone,

Camp Okizu burned down due to the fires, and I’ve been trying to think about what has truly been lost here, because it’s a bit surreal. This camp has supported my family and hundreds of others with the struggle that is pediatric cancer. As some of you may know, my older brother Alec was diagnosed with ALL (acute lymphoblastic leukemia) when he was in 5th grade, and my family had an extremely tough 3 and a half years. Thanks to treatment, Alec is doing great, as he starts his junior year at UC Davis.

Camp Okizu is a safe place for children and families who have dealt with cancer and their siblings. Up until this year, I had attended Okizu for eight years in a row. In our recent fires in California, Okizu burned to the ground in the Berry Creek blaze, to the devastation of so many people, including myself. For my family, Okizu supported us and offered us a sanctuary where we are truly understood and loved. The Okizu community is one of the strongest I’ve ever been a part of, and has helped shape who I am. 

Okizu needs all the help it can get to restore and rebuild what once was, or something even better.
