Number Inc is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee. The mission of Number: Inc is to advance the visual arts of the South by publishing critical discourse that educates, advocates, and informs. Number: Inc is the publisher of the visual arts journal Number. The journal was created in 1987 to bring a voice and presence to vital communities of visual artists, arts organizations and art enthusiasts. Number Inc. is the grassroots, volunteer-run organization that keeps this free publication available. In the quarterly print journal and on our website, we publish news of the visual arts to a broad audience in the South. Our goals are to:Advance the visual arts of the South by providing a written record and critical analysis of contemporary southern art.Through the publication of Number, to educate, advocate and inform artists and non-artists about diverse practices in Southern art making and history.Provide a platform for Southern artists and art writers to share work with each other, the art establishment and the general public.Engage a diverse audience for the arts by providing the journal free of charge to many different locations.Develop our online presence to encompass more immediate art news and criticism.
