VOLS for Nourishment

Who Are We
Our team of four students from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, nicknamed VOLS for Nourishment, is working to raise funds for a local nonprofit, Nourish Knoxville, an organization based in Eastern Tennessee that facilitates access to fresh produce from local farmers in the region. This is an incredible organization that provides wellness and nutrients to families who may not have those resources otherwise, as well as financially supporting farmers and increasing outreach. Our goal as a group of college students is to shed light on local resources and to boost their reach in the local community.
What We Need
Our goal is to raise at least $1,000 to support Nourish Knoxville and its goals. Nourish Knoxville works to enable access to fresh produce for thousands of families in the region of East Tennessee.
- The production of 50 East Tennessee Local Food Guides costs $25, and they are distributed as a free resource for members of the community to find locally grown produce.
- A $50 donation pays for one farm inspection for a market vendor in order for the farms to qualify as a vendor for Nourish Knoxville.
- A $150 donation can provide “Produce Bucks” for up to 30 children to purchase fresh produce at a Nourish market. In order for SNAP food stamps to be accepted at a market, the donation cost is $1,000 for one year.
- Any amount contributed will help to support these programs and the longevity of Nourish Knoxville!
How Donating Can Help
When donating, these funds will make it possible for local farmers and producers to provide fresh produce to the East Tennessee community. This allows access to healthy and nourishing food through programs such as Nourish Community, Nourish Moves, Nourish Kids, and Double Up Food Bucks.
- Nourish Community is a program that purchases local produce, eggs, and dried goods from market vendors before redistributing the resources to food pantries and communities in need.
- Nourish Kids gives kids a way to connect with local farmers and try local produce. This includes an activity, a sample of locally grown produce, and $5 in Produce Bucks to be spent at the market!
- Nourish Moves is a free program where adults and kids can get a pedometer and walk the Farmer's Market and get $3 in Produce Bucks to spend at the Market.
- Double Up Food Bucks & SNAP are programs where Nourish matches EBT Card/SNAP with every dollar spent up to $20 in SNAP tokens at Farmers' Markets for affordable, locally grown fruits and vegetables.
Nourish Knoxville cannot support farmers and organize their events without financial support from donors like you! In the words of Nourish Knoxville, “Proceeds help develop meaningful community impact by maintaining authentic space for all people to participate in the local food community, build a diverse local food culture, and keep our local and regional farmers farming.”
Other Ways You Can Help
Support doesn’t just stop at donating! If you are unable to provide financial support, you can still help by spreading the word. Share this campaign with others! You can find us on Instagram! You can also volunteer your time at local Farmer's Markets. Nourish Knoxville is always looking for volunteers to help organize their markets throughout the week, as well as more vendors to provide goods! The easiest way to support is by participating in the various family-friendly events hosted throughout the year.
