Northwest County Volunteer Fire Department

Actively seeking to fund two rescue/quick response vehicles to donate to the Northwest Co. Volunteer Fire Department to better the community response to the surrounding area.

Overall a majority of the responses from the fire departement are volunteers sacrificing thier time and finances to support the community through responding in their personal vehicles. These vehicles are not equipped to handle rescues/emergency situations.

The Department recieves $7250 quarterly from the county which equates to enought to pay to keep the lights on, fuel the trucks, and replace basic hand tools damaged on calls. The department also uses the money to pay the stipend to recieve water to suppor tthe community. Yes the Fire department pays to use water to support the community.

Currently Northwest County VFD is only in posession of 4 vehicles. Which is not even enough to mobilize its department in a rapid response.

The Department mainains a 2002 Pierce Fire enginge that lacks the rapid response and ability to manuever off road to acess most of the community.

The station is also equiped with 1 brush truck which is a 1988 Chevy K100 pickup that is extremely outdated and while it does provide 300 gallons of water to exterme brush fire emergencies, it lacks the ability to carry emergency rescue equipment for responding to anything besides a rural brush fire.

Fianlly, the Fire Departmentmaintains a peterbuilt water tanker capable of delivering 3250 gallons of water to supply the engine.

The majority of the station's fleet is dedicated to fighting brush fires, but since the 1st of the year, the department has responded to almost 4 times the amount of vehicle colissions/medical aid calls than fires.

Northwest County Volunteer Fire Department serves communities in Hudspeth County, TX, including Desert Haven, Loma Linda, and Cornudas via contract with Hudspeth County ESD #2.

The mission of Northwest County Volunteer Fire Department is to save lives and protect property endangered by fires, motor vehicle accident response/rescue, provide emergency assistance for other disasters, and to promote the teaching and practice of fire prevention and protection.
