Together, Let’s Open the Doors to Our New Senior Center
Help Us Open the Doors to Our New Northeastern Senior Center
For more than 50 years, the Northeastern Senior Center has been a home away from home for older adults in Northeastern York County. We serve thousands of meals each year, offer life-enriching activities, provide a place for friendships and community support, and connect seniors with the resources they need to remain independent.
But right now, we are facing one of the biggest challenges in our history — we must relocate.
Our current space, a church basement we’ve called home for many years, can no longer meet the needs of our members or the programs we’ve grown. We must move into our new building before our lease ends, and we want to do so without taking on debt that would jeopardize programming and services.
Where We Stand Today
We purchased a building in Strinestown — a place filled with potential — and began remodeling it to become a fully accessible, safe, and welcoming senior center. Since then, we’ve overcome:
Multiple flooding events in the newer addition
Unexpected structural issues
Cost increases due to materials and labor shortages
A long wait to re-establish our 501(c)(3) status
Delays from contractors and design firms working through staffing changes
Despite these setbacks, we have continued to push forward. We’ve repaired the foundation, removed damaged materials, and begun preparing the space for everything our seniors deserve.
Now we need help finishing the job.
