North America Limi Welfare Society Inc. is a non-profit organisation established in New York City by the people of Limi Valley.

We are raising this fund for the affected Til Village of Limi Valley, Humla, Nepal. The entire proceeds will go to the people of Til Village.

No electricity. No road. Our people now sit in darkness, disconnected and ignored.

Post-Flood Destruction Video

On the night of May 15, 2025, around 10:30 PM, the village of Til in Limi Valley—our motherland—was once again struck by the fury of the climate crisis. A devastating glacier flood, caused by a Thermokarst Lake Outburst Flood (TLOF), tore through our remote Himalayan community. Villagers were forced to flee in the middle of the night, and the disaster resulted in millions of rupees in infrastructural damage. All residents are now temporarily displaced to a safer location, living in non-waterproof (leaky) tents.

In a matter of moments, we lost:

Though the flood may appear small, its consequences are massive. From the hydropower system to the canal networks, roads, fields, bridges, and mills, the very foundations of Til’s community have been washed away. The people of Limi had struggled immensely to establish the hydropower project, only for it to be gone in a split second.

Our people now sit in darkness, disconnected and ignored. Limi Valley, like so many other indigenous mountain communities in Nepal, is consistently among the first to be impacted by climate change, yet the last to receive help.

This thermokarst lake burst occurred during a dry night. The upcoming monsoon season in Nepal is likely to cause even more damage, potentially sweeping away half the village!

Your donation will help build:

Priority Areas

1. Emergency Shelter for Displaced

Provide 21 waterproof tents before monsoon—only 5 have been provided so far.

2. Safe Settlements

Retaining walls, floodproof houses, and stable infrastructure.

3. Future Flood Risk Assessment Study

Study of the Trakphu glaciers and rock glaciers threatening both Til and Halzi villages, especially in the upcoming Monsoon 2025.

4. Solar Energy Infrastructure

Install solar panels with battery backups to restore electricity post-hydropower collapse.

5. Reconnect the Economy

Immediate clearance of the Limi-Hilsa border road, the community’s only economic artery.

6. Green Recovery

Reconstruction of mini hydropower, irrigation canals, roads, and water reservoirs.

We are devastated by this unfortunate event. Our people are in danger, and our village is at risk of being wiped off the earth.

ABOUT LIMI VALLEY:

Limi Valley, tucked deep within the highlands of Humla district near the Nepal-China border, is one of the most remote and economically marginalised regions in the country. With no access to all-season roads, electricity, or basic healthcare facilities, the valley remains cut off from national development efforts. Communities here live days away from the nearest motorable road, rely on traditional agriculture and animal pastoralism for survival, and face chronic neglect from the federal government. Despite its strategic location and rich cultural heritage, Limi continues to be overlooked, underserved, and structurally excluded from mainstream progress.
