Hi, I’m Dave Walker. I have been accepted to participate in the Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge ride this year as rider #1276.

The Hoka Hey is an 11,000 mile ride that takes place every other year with paper turn by turn directions provided by the organizers. GPS is not allowed, only paper maps can be used, and the ride takes place on secondary roads, no highways. It starts in Illinois and any of the lower 48 states are on the table for us to ride through. This is an unsupported ride with no outside assistance. Only American made motorcycles can enter and must have a stock sized gas tank…..and we can’t sleep indoors for the duration of the ride. Yup, we sleep outside next to our bikes the whole time.

As some of you know, one of the jobs I do after retiring as a firefighter is as a Transportation Specialist for the Nationwide Organ Recovery Transportation Alliance, NORA. We handle all the transportation needs for organ donation. One of the Organ Procurement Organizations we work with is New England Donor Services, Inc. (NEDS). I’ve chosen to raise funds to support them and their mission. Every dollar raised will be going to NEDS as I am self funding my ride. This incredible organization plays a vital role in coordinating organ and tissue donation across New England, helping to save and enhance countless lives.
