The Sammy Medical Fund
The Sammy Medical Fund
After I moved to San Diego from New York, I chose to work for the National Cat Protection Society for many reasons—but a big one was because they provide their cats and kittens with such high-quality care. The staff not only manages the routine responsibilities, such as spaying and neutering, vaccinations, flea and tick treatments, deworming, and microchipping, but we also provide more advanced care, such as dental treatments, tumor removal, kidney and liver care, and treatments for sudden abscesses and ear infections.
Unfortunately, these treatments and procedures all really add up in cost.
Consider Sammy, our beloved housecat that literally walked into our shelter a couple of years ago for his morning visit. While one of our staff members was petting him, they noticed a sizeable lump on his side. We immediately got him to the veterinarian, who promptly scheduled Sammy for a biopsy. Amazingly, the tumor was benign.
Now two years later, Sammy has been diagnosed with cataracts and a detached retina, which is rare given that he hasn't experienced any trauma. Sammy is now undergoing a month-long eye treatment. When that's done, he may be a candidate for eye surgery, which will cost about $4,000.
For Sammy and the many other cats that depend on our no-kill shelter's care and support until they pass on, we've started the Sammy Medical Fund. By donating to this fund, you'll be enabling us to provide the medical care they deserve—with the tons of TLC we've been giving over our 53 years of operation. Whether you'd like to give a monthly donation of $5 or a one-time donation of $1,000, we're grateful for any amount that can go to Sammy's medical fund and our other cats' ongoing medical needs.
On behalf of all of us at NatCat, including Sammy and myself, thank you in advance for your thoughtful support.
Sincerely,
Michael Rueb, Operations Manager at NatCat Spring Valley
