Art workshops in Local Libraries
NAWA was established in 1889 and is the first organization for professional women artists. Our mission is to empower, support, promote, encourage women artists. Another important part of our mission is to educate the public about the arts with a focus on women artists.
For the first 6 months of 2018 the National Association of Women Artists, Inc. has had two artists teach education art workshops at a NYC Public Library. The two artists that started the program had 4 students in the first class, and now the class has over 15 with a waiting list of about 16. They are teaching: collage/mixed media, watercolor and painting.
NAWA wants to continue this program, adding more libraries and more teachers (with expertise in different mediums).
The two teachers paid for their own transportation, plus all of the supplies, and carrying tote bags.
We are asking for funds to help with supplies and tools (paints, papers, scissors, glue/paste, ink, pencils, rulers etc.) plus carrying cases, and transportation to the various libraries. We would like to video and also photograph these classes in order to promote the classes in various neighborhood libraries, and also promote the wonderful work that has been created by non-professional artists.
If we are able to get the proper funding we will be able to continue these FREE Saturday educational art workshops in various libraries and keep the arts alive in local communities.
