Nashville Cat Rescue is a non-profit, 501c3 organization that has been in existence for 20 years. We have rescued and re-homed over 20,000 cats since 2005.
We are now ready to take on our biggest endeavor yet - purchasing Donelson Animal Hospital in order to offer the community and other rescue groups affordable, quality veterinary care. Here are some statistics:
A 2022 article by the American Veterinary Medical Association included the following information:
• Financial limitations and the cost of veterinary care are the most commonly reported barriers to receiving care
• The Access to Veterinary Care Coalition (AVCC) found that 8 out of 10 pet owners who were unable to receive veterinary care for their animals indicated it was because they were not able to afford it
• Pet owners are often surprised at the cost of veterinary care, and 59% agree or strongly agree that the costs of routine visits are higher than expected
Local Nashville numbers:
• Private veterinary clinics charge anywhere from $50-$70 for routine office visits, $85 - $200 for routine bloodwork, and from $150 - $500 for standard spay/neuter surgeries for cats and dogs.
• We will set and maintain a price list that aims to make veterinary care affordable for the community and other rescue groups
• The low-cost spay and neuter clinics in our area stay booked for months, and are oftentimes not a viable option for people needing standard veterinary care like vaccinations or sick visits
• The Donelson area of Nashville to home to around 15,000 people according to recent data from the U.S. Census Bureau
• There are only three veterinary clinics serving this area, and one of these has historically only been open three days a week.
Nashville Cat Rescue’s Goal
• Nashville Cat Rescue is looking to purchase and manage one of the three veterinary clinics in the area, Donelson Animal Hospital, in order to serve the community of Donelson and Nashville, and to offer affordable veterinary care to people and their pets.
• We have been in existence for 20 years, and we are deeply committed to the community and the animals we serve
• Our goal is to offer affordable, quality veterinary care to the community at reasonable prices
• We want to open 5 days a week to better meet community needs, with the hope of offering Saturday hours as well once the clinic is better established
• We will offer discounts to other rescues organizations, many of which are in desperate need of affordable veterinary care for their animals
• We will operate under the same non-profit umbrella that we have had for 20 years
• We want to be a hub for Donelson, where community veterinary care and animal rescue blend seamlessly and enrich the lives of people and their companion animals
Donelson Animal Hospital
• Donelson Animal Hospital is the oldest veterinary clinic in all of Nashville, TN
• Although full of charm and potential, it does need quite a bit of work, as do all buildings once they reach this age
• With your financial support, Nashville Cat Rescue is ready to dive in to outright purchase and then rehabilitate this clinic so that we can better serve the animals of our community
• You might say Donelson Animal Hospital needs rescuing, which is exactly what Nashville Cat Rescue does!
