Project Playground for Nanume church
Hello!
Nanume Church or "Church of Sharing" is a Korean church located on Long Island, USA. We are a small community of over 100 international students and immigrants who have left our homeland for study or livelihood but want to worship in our native language and share Korean food. Since its establishment in 2002, Nanume Church has rented the chapel of an American church building called Smithtown First Presbyterian Church. Yet, this small church has helped missionaries serving slums in Philadelphia and an orphanage in Haiti. In addition, we established a Korean Language School for Korean language education for young Koreans growing up in this area or anybody who is interested in Korean culture, whether they attend church or not. In 2020, this school was officially certified as an overseas Korean language education institution by the Korean Consulate General.
Nanume Church offers a Sunday Bible school for children of various ages where mainly volunteers are working as teachers. Unfortunately, these Sunday School children do not have the right to use the American church playground. Luckily, a few years ago, Nanume Church bought an old kindergarten building and has been offering a Sunday school there. However, this playground site is filled with weeds after years of negligence, without any working playing equipment, and in desperate need of renovation. It's a sad reality that we can't get children to play on the playground because of their safety concerns. If we can create a new space where children can play and relax, this new playground can be a blessing not only to children who are currently attending Sunday School or the Korean Language School, but also to many families who will raise their young children in the region in the future. Everyone, please help us create such a safe and happy playground for children!
