NAMI NKY
About NAMI NKY
NAMI Northern Kentucky works throughout its eight-county region to ensure that the community accepts mental illness as any other health condition. Through collaboration, public education, and advocacy, NAMI NKY reduces stigma by facilitating understanding, acceptance, and societal integration of those affected by mental illness. NAMI NKY, through its trained volunteers, empowers those affected by mental illness and their families to improve the quality of their lives by providing classes, peer-led support groups, and social interaction. NAMI NKY is a mostly volunteer organization, with one part-time administrative assistant. Its members, volunteers, and most board members are those with mental illness and their caring family members. However, you need not have a mental illness, or a family member with a mental illness to join NAMI NKY or to serve as a volunteer. NAMI NKY defines family in the broadest sense: a couple or group connected by blood, marriage, or affinity. NAMI Northern Kentucky, with a large engaged membership and a cadre of volunteers, is the recognized leader in its eight-county region as a catalyst for change and primary source of information, education, support, and advocacy relating to the effects of mental illness and eliminating stigma. As such, the Northern Kentucky community accepts mental illness as any other health condition and has developed a full array of excellent, affordable services accessible to all residents, focused on recovery and full integration of individuals into their community.
