Want to join us in making a difference for mental health?

 

We are Alan Whitters MD & Craig Hovda MD, practicing physicians. In the United States, there are millions of people impacted by mental illness every year. During the COVID pandemic, there was a worsening of mental health that caused or aggravated mental illness in our friends, coworkers, and loved ones. I invite you to join with us on the "Pedal for Mental Health”, a fundraiser in partnership with National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Linn County.

 

We will ride our bicycles over 1,000 miles, beginning on June 20 in Seattle, Washington on a 15-day trek. We will ride through the mountains of Washington and Idaho, ending on July 5 in Billings, Montana.

 

Why? As a physicians, we are worried about the state of mental health in our country. As we travel thru rural towns, large cities, and local bike trails, we will have conversations about mental illness, share messages about mental health, and strategies to reduce mental health stigma in our communities. 

 

Donate to “Pedal for Mental Health” to make a difference for the one in five adults that experience mental illness. Your support will help NAMI Linn County, a non-profit organization, dedicated to improving the lives of people with mental illness. Help raise awareness and funds for NAMI support groups, programs, and advocacy.

Want to join me in making a difference for mental health?

My name is Mario Minnaert and I want to invite you to join me in the "Miles for Mental Health" fundraiser on March 4th - March 6th in partnership with NAMI Linn County and my employer, Higher Learning Technologies.  I'm training for the Goggins 4x4x48 Challenge where I'll be running 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours straight. By the end of it, I'll run 48 miles!

Why? I believe the real benefit from taking on endurance challenges like this is not the physical aspect but the mental benefits. That's why I'm also raising awareness for the importance of mental health and raising money to benefit NAMI Linn County. 1 in 5 adults in America experience a mental illness. Some of the people closest to me have been impacted with mental health issues, yet not enough people are talking about it. I want anyone who is struggling to know it's OK to not be OK and receive the help they need.

That's where NAMI comes in! NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) is a grassroots, self-help, education, support, and advocacy organization dedicated to improving the lives of people with mental illness and their families. The organization has more than 210,000 members nationwide and is growing every day!
