Murieta Trail Stewardship

Murieta Trail Stewardship’s mission is to maintain and enhance the 17 miles of natural trails in Rancho Murieta. These trails are not part of RMA, so they do not maintain them. When you see folks working on the trails, it is MTS volunteers. We are in our 12th year, and with your help, we will continue to keep the trails open. If we don’t do it, it doesn't get done.

I want to thank all of you who donated last year. Your generosity helped us purchase new equipment and develop plans for the future. As a result, MTS is now a 501 (c)(3) non-profit corporation with a nine-member board of directors, all residents of Rancho Murieta. That means your generosity can now be tax-deductible.

In addition to our nine-member board and regular volunteers, we have started a program with Scout Troop 633. For every hour of Scout volunteer work on the trails, we will, in turn, donate $15.00 to troop 633 to help fund their year-round activities. Kind of like doubling your donation dollars.

Twelve years ago, we patched together some trail signs using scrap material. They are small, hard to read, and too low to see. Many of them are unreadable. Often folks don’t know what trail they are on.

With your help, we are going to install new trail signs. The new trail signs are constructed with heavy gauge aluminum, mounted on a 2-⅜ inch galvanized post with aluminum brackets. The top of the new trail signs will be 6 feet above the ground to make them more visible. These new signs will significantly improve safety and make hiking, riding, or dog walking much more enjoyable. This project is a significant part of our budget this year, but it is a one-time investment that we can enjoy for many years.

Budget Summary

Here are our projected expenses for the 12 months starting July 1, 2022.

Liability insurance $1,400;

55 signs including post, sign, hardware, and installation $7,000;

Fuel, upkeep, equipment replacement $1,000;

Storage rental $1,200.

Donor Bonus : Your Name on a Sign

For a donation of $200.00 or more, you can have your *name attached as a separate sign mounted below the Trail Sign. This mini 8 X 6-inch sign duplicates the regular Trail Sign, using the same materials and formatting, and is permanently attached to the pole.

*If you don’t want your name, you can substitute something else, such as a business name, a club name, or even your dog's name. (No Politics) All the signs, with the exception of the Gnome, are $200.00. If you are interested in sponsoring the Gnome Trail sign, click the contact button and tell us about it.
