So sorry to update that our MND Warrior, Nick Deane, sadly passed away peacefully on Friday 31st October.

We promised to hit the £100,000 fund- raising target in his honour and events and collections are already being planned.

Nick was an inspiration to the end; the kind words and outpouring of love since news broke of his passing is a big comfort to his family and friends.

He really was one in a million.

Hi Everyone

A few weeks ago, one of our family friends received the devastating diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease (MND). It seems to have appeared from nowhere and Claire otherwise always seemed lively and healthy. Now together with her husband John, they are coming to terms with the heart breaking journey which now lies ahead. We will all have the more public images of Super League Rugby star Rob Burrow and the horrible effect that this vile disease brings with it. It really is difficult to comprehend.

Claire’s family and friends have circled to support her and John part of which includes fundraising events for the MND charity which aims to provide resources, support and guidance for families who are having to endure this trauma. Hopefully , one day it will lead to a cure.

Hardly coming anywhere close to Kevin Sinfield’s awesome efforts to help his mate but for my part I am challenged with running 100 KMs in 30 days . It might not seem a lot but at my age and having been built for comfort rather than speed and having never run 10K in my life until a couple of weeks ago, the thought of doing a 10K run every 3 days is a million miles out of my comfort zone. Whether I can do it , who knows? But it won’t be for lack of trying!! It’s hard to put a target monetary sum around this mission but hopefully with your help we can at least do something meaningful and any donation you are able to make will be most gratefully received.

So thank you in anticipation of your support. I will keep you updated as the challenge unfolds during the month of February . So wish me luck- I will certainly need it !!

Jumping for a Cause Close to Our Hearts

Hi, we’re Abbie and Lorraine, and this March we’re taking a leap — literally — by doing a skydive to raise vital funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA).

This cause is deeply personal to us. When we were younger, we lost our beloved grandad to Motor Neurone Disease (MND), a cruel and devastating condition that affects the brain and nerves, gradually robbing people of their ability to move, speak, and eventually breathe. Watching someone you love go through that is something you never forget.

We’re doing this skydive in his memory — to honour his strength, courage, and the love he gave us — and to stand in solidarity with the thousands of people and families currently facing MND. By raising funds for the MNDA, we hope to support their incredible work in providing care, funding research, and campaigning for better support and understanding of this disease.

Every donation, big or small, will help make a difference. Whether it’s £1 or £100, your support means the world to us — and to those living with MND today.

On 15th December, our lives were turned upside down when my dad, David Thomas, was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

Like many families, this diagnosis came as a huge shock. It’s a cruel and devastating illness and one we sadly knew very little about until it affected our own family.

So rather than feeling helpless, I wanted to do something positive.

On 10th May 2026, I’ll be running the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon, raising money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Every pound raised helps fund vital research, care, and support. Hopefully bringing us closer to better treatments and, one day, a cure for future MND patients.

Hi, im Ethan and I am running 5K every day to raise awareness and funds for MND, a cause that is deeply personal to me and my family. Recently, a close family friend has been diagnosed with MND, a disease which my family have experienced the pain first hand when we sadly lost my grandad. Seeing firsthand the impact MND has on not only those diagnosed, but also on the people who love them, is something that never leaves you.

This challenge is my way of supporting Ross and his family, who have done so much for me, whilst also honouring John and standing with everyone affected by MND. Every run will be completed in the hope that increased awareness, research, and support can one day lead to better treatments and a cure.

In March, I am running 21 kilometres every day for 21 days to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

In November last year I sadly lost my Grandma (Jan) to Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Grandma didn’t show the typical symptoms of MND meaning it went undiagnosed for many months despite countless different tests whilst her condition continued to deteriorate. It was only after being admitted to hospital that she was diagnosed with MND. She sadly passed away a few days later.

After months of trying to get a diagnosis and with Grandma sadly losing her battle with MND, I feel compelled to raise awareness of the disease, and help support those who have been diagnosed and their families.

Every day in the UK six people are told the devastating news that they have MND. Any donations, no matter how big or small, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

In June 2022, I was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Since then, I’ve faced the challenges of this condition head-on, supported by my family, friends, and the incredible work of the MND Association. While there is no cure yet, the MND Association provides vital support for people like me, funds critical research, and raises awareness for those affected by MND.

on 21st June 2026, I have arranged a walk / wheel to raise money for the MND Association and their essential work in supporting people with MND, funding research, and offering practical help.

I’m inviting you to join me on June 21st 2026, as I take part in a walk / wheel to raise funds and awareness of this terrible condition.

The route will be starting and ending at Riverside Stadium in Middlesbrough. We’ll be going around the waterfront and passing Middlesbrough College along the way.

It’s a friendly, inclusive event, and everyone is welcome to join — whether you’re walking, wheeling, or simply cheering us on! You can join for the full route or just part of it, and we’d love to have as many people as possible taking part to help us raise money and spread awareness.

The MND Association has been a huge support to me and my loved ones since my diagnosis. Through their work, they are:

• Supporting individuals and families impacted by MND

• Funding life-saving research into treatments and a potential cure

• Providing much-needed care, information, and equipment

Wessex Truck and Trailer are running the Bath Half Marathon for the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) charity.

Some members of staff will be taking part in the Bath Half Marathon and are running in support of the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association.

They’re doing an amazing job training for this challenge and raising awareness and funds for a cause that makes a real difference to people and families affected by MND.

As a personal challenge for my 50th Birthday year I'm crocheting a world record breaking crochet marathon scene. I am donating all monies to the MND Association. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause.

Mountvale Private Nursing Home, Dromore, Co Down chooses a Registered Charity to fundraise for each year. This year the Staff decided to keep it close to home. We decided to work in conjunction with Dromore VAC (Dromore Veterans and Community Association) and Dromore Rugby club to fundraise for Motor Neurone Disease in memory of George Sloan, a former player of Dromore Rugby Club.

Before MND George worked as a diesel fitter but could turn his hand to anything. While his rugby playing days were behind him ( having played for Ulster and Ireland Youth Squad and Dromore 1sts) he remained a proud supporter of Dromore RFC.

George was fit and healthy before his diagnosis running and cycling regularly. While he loved heavy metal and rock music he was creative, artistic and loved to cook, garden and caravan. But most of all he was a family man and loved spending time together with his doting wife, Allison and their two boys, Harry and Alex who he adored & was so proud of.

Diagnosed in April 2023 at the of age 47, although symptoms had been present for a few yrs before this. MND is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks the nerve cells responsible for voluntary muscle movement. Over time MND causes muscle wastage throughout the body resulting in loss of mobility & paralysis, speech, swallowing and ultimately breathing are impacted. It is a terminal condition with no treatment or cure. Therefore fund raising is so vital to support both families living with this condition, but also research to ultimately find a cure.

George died 18th December 2025, age 49 yrs.
