Support Mother Nature Cambodia's Imprisoned Heroes!!
On July 2, five brave members of the award-winning environmental group Mother Nature Cambodia were unjustly sentenced to between 6 and 8 years in jail due to their inspirational and highly effective environmental campaigning. Their names are Thun Ratha, Ly Chandaravuth, Yim Leanghy, Phuon Keorasmey, and Long Kunthea. Additionally, five other activists were found guilty and also risk being jailed.
Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, the United Nations, and countless Cambodians have condemned this sentence as unfair and demanded their unconditional release. Mother Nature Cambodia, comprised entirely of young Cambodians, has been campaigning for environmental protection for years, achieving remarkable victories along the way.
Last November, the group received the Right Livelihood Award, which highlighted their "fearless activism in the face of a growing government crackdown."
The five activists have been sent to different jails, separated from their families and loved ones, and placed in remote, overcrowded, and underfunded detention centers. Urgent assistance is needed to cover some of the costs of this grossly unjust incarceration. Funds collected will be used to assist the group and the family members of the jailed activists with expenses such as family visits, food and other costs in jail, legal fees, and more.
