About Moonshot Initiative INC

Moonshot Initiative, formerly known as Women's Weekend Film Challenge, is an arts and culture nonprofit that works for gender equity by creating opportunities for women and nonbinary filmmakers to bring their leadership, talents, and stories to the forefront of the film and television industry. We serve a diverse community: 52% of our filmmakers are BIPOC, and 32% identify as LGBTQ+. Moonshot works year-round as a grassroots solution to the underrepresentation of women in film and television. We’re best known for our signature film challenge, where we curate teams of professional women and nonbinary filmmakers in every role of production to write, shoot, and edit a short film in one weekend — and we provide the cinema-quality gear, production insurance, a premiere screening and more.
