MIN Food Bank
Mission Statement:
Our mission is to nourish our community—both Tribal and non-Tribal—by providing equitable access to nutritious food, promoting food sovereignty, and honoring our cultural commitment to care for all. Rooted in tradition and community values, we serve Amherst County and surrounding areas, ensuring no one is turned away. Through our organic garden, we cultivate fresh, wholesome produce with love and respect, especially for our elders, who are the heart of our heritage.
Vision Statement:
We envision a resilient, food-secure community where every individual has access to healthy, culturally respectful food. Guided by Indigenous values and environmental stewardship, we strive to grow not only food but also connection, dignity, and hope for generations to come.
The Monacan Indian Food Bank is a lifeline for many. Operated through the Monacan Nation Cultural Foundation, a nonprofit organization, our mission is to serve the citizens of the Monacan Indian Nation and extend a helping hand to neighbors in the surrounding communities.
Today, 1 in 4 families in our area struggles with food insecurity. That means too many parents are skipping meals so their children can eat, and too many elders are going to bed hungry.
We were grateful to receive temporary funding from the Monacan Indian Nation during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, which helped sustain our food bank through December 2020. But that support has ended. With the loss of federal funding and essential programs, the demand for food has grown—while our resources have dwindled.
From our hearts, we’re asking for your support.
Whether it's $5 or $50, your gift makes an immediate difference. It puts food on the tables of families who need it most. It brings comfort to elders, nourishment to children, and relief to those who don’t know where their next meal is coming from.
We, the staff and volunteers of the Monacan Indian Food Bank, are incredibly grateful for every act of generosity. And our clients—your neighbors, friends, and fellow community members—are deeply thankful, too.
Please stand with us. Help us continue this critical work and ensure no one in our community is left behind.
With heartfelt thanks,
The Monacan Indian Food Bank Team
