Lhoppon Rinpoche is fundraising
Temple Parking Lot, Sidewalk and Site Improvement
Mipham Shedra was founded by Lhoppön Rinpoche for the preservation and practice of Tibetan Buddhism. In light of this, Rinpoche felt that Buddhist practitioners in the West would benefit from the infrastructure and support commonly found in Tibet and India. Foremost among these are, 1) accessible resident teachers, and 2) temples in convenient locations.

By participating in the Sangha, various constituencies—Tibetan, Nepalese, Sherpa and Western—will have the enriching opportunities which come from being part of a culturally diverse Buddhist community.

With this in mind, Rinpoche procured a beautiful 6-acre property in Westminster, Colorado, with the vision of building a temple where practitioners could study, contemplate and meditate.

The primary goal of 'Phase 1' of this fundraising project is to meet the various county and city requirements needed for a 'Certificate of Occupancy.' With this certificate in hand, we will be able to gather and practice in the temple. The following items must be completed before it can be issued:

1. Right-of-Way improvements (sidewalk along 106th)

2. Driveway Paving & Parking Lot Improvements

3. Site Grading and Drainage Infrastructure

4. Concrete Walkways

5. Planting / Landscape Screening

6. Temple Building Code Improvements- Accessible Bathroom

It gives us great joy to know we are building a temple that will serve all sentient beings for generations to come. We warmly invite you to join us on this exciting journey.

Campaign for Mipham Shedra
Tashi delek dear ones. Lhoppon Rechung Rinpoche was born in a Tibetan refugee camp in Bir, Himachal Pradesh, India. His family fled Tibet along with the Dalai Lama in 1959. At the age of 5 he entered the Palyul Chokhor Ling monastery and spent the next 23 years as a monk pursuing the Buddhadharma. In 2004 he established Mipham Shedra Buddhist meditation center in Boulder, Colorado. Mipham Shedra promotes the practice and preservation of Tibetan Buddhism for the benefit of all sentient beings. It exists to bring the teaching and manifestation of love and compassion to all it can reach.

After many years of tireless work, Rinpoche was able to purchase a plot of land just down the road in the city of Westminster as a permanent home. A growing group of dedicated sangha members helped to convert a small garage into a modest temple where meditation classes, Tibetan studies and the Buddhadharma could be practiced.

Recently, a contentious City Council meeting was called to determine whether or not Mipham Shedra would be allowed to continue to operate on the property after some neighbors argued that it was in violation of zoning ordinances. In the interim, Mipham Shedra closed its doors until the City Council could make a determination. In a standing room only City Council meeting that took two days to hear from all the members of the community, Mipham Shedra won their zoning argument and was awarded the right to continue its mission.

But in order for that to happen, a number of improvements need to be made for the property to be in compliance with what the City has deemed necessary and also to follow Tibetan architectural design such as roofing elements and prayer wheels. Improvements include changes to the structure, parking, easements, drainage, and a laundry list of other items. We are estimating the cost to be in the neighborhood of $250,000.
