Midnight's Promise, Inc.

Midnight's Promise  is an equine rescue sanctuary in Salisbury, NC that provides safety, nurturing, and healing to horses that have been neglected or discarded. Many of these horses have traumatic histories which they cannot verbalize, but their scars and fears tell the story. In both horses and people, trauma can cause distrust, anxiety, behavior issues, avoidance, and dissociation. The effects of trauma take various forms that can affect all aspects of life, making progress and returning to "normal" feel challenging or nearly impossible.

Through relationship, connection, and nurturing the effects of trauma can be healed. The Heart Centered Horsemanship  approach to training includes practices of mindfulness, intentional breathing, gentle touch, relaxation techniques, and rhythmic movement. Developing a trusting relationship takes time, but with patience and consistency a powerful bond develops between horse and human. 


Healing Connections is a partnership between Midnight's Promise and Heart Centered Horsemanship that will provide opportunities for people that are recovering from the effects of traumatic pasts to work with horses that are also going through the process of healing.  Working with a mental health professional and a PATH Certified Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning, participants will learn skills for centering, grounding, releasing triggers, reducing anxiety, and controlling behavior in the horse. Through mutually beneficial relationship with the horse, the healer is also healed.

Midnight’s Promise is at a crossroads. The wonderful farm on Delta Street that has been our home since 2016 has been sold and we were told we needed to move our equine rescue this August. The search for a new home began immediately. We feel we have exhausted all our options for finding an affordable lease on a new place large enough for our operation. However, we have found a nice farm available for purchase in Rowan County that would fulfill all our current needs and allow Midnight’s Promise to grow and flourish. It is a 27-acre property with 17.5 acres in well-cared for orchard/fescue pasture and a spring-fed pond and creek. It has a good 8-stall barn wired for electricity and fencing around 9 acres. The property is adjacent to 100 acres of horse trails in a pine forest that we would have access to. The asking price is $236,000.

With your generosity we can secure a permanent location for Midnight’s Promise that would provide long-term stability and enable us to work and improve the property for the benefit of the rescue for years to come We are reaching out to our supporters and donors in a capital campaign to raise the funds to be able to purchase this property.

If you are not familiar with us, Midnight’s Promise is a 501(c)3 nonprofit in good standing with the IRS and fully licensed by the NC Secretary of State. Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome horses from abuse, neglect and slaughter through rescue efforts, education and community partnerships. We have maintained a Platinum status with GuideStar for the past 4 years, are ASPCA Field Investigator and Emergency Response Partners, members of the Equus Foundation and the Equine Welfare Data Collective.

Our faithful supporters and donors have given us the opportunity to rescue abused and neglected horses, rehabilitating them and placing them in loving homes for over 6 years. We also provide assistance and education to horse owners, offer our facility to horses that need to be evacuated from storms, provide hay, feed, and medical supply assistance to the coast after hurricanes, host youth groups, provide training to emergency responders, and offer an equine therapeutic support program for senior citizens.
