Since Gregory had no insurance, this effort is to help replenish the funds used by Methodist Hospital Willowbrook for his care. They need the funds to keep trying for others. We honor Gregory’s memory and for his “good heart.”
We are now and forever broken-hearted. Greg was a good man with a rich heart and the hope has been restored between the faith and the love. Thank you for your kindness and whatever consideration you give to the Methodist Hospital Willowbrook health care workers in their efforts to deal with afflictions of this sort.
He Died too Soon
Gregory, like Paul, had a “thorn in the flesh.” Greg's was alcoholism. But he also was an artist using watercolors and charcoal on paper, paint on furniture and walls and ceilings of homes. He knew everything about World War II—the politics, generals, battles, strategies, tanks, planes, weapons, wins and losses, and the ultimate victory. He was a master military model maker, diorama builder, dog-lover, cook, restaurant manager, welder, motorcycle builder, fisherman, carpenter, repairman, yardman, furniture builder, painter, repairer, handyman, designer, a long-haul trucker, hot-shot driver, preacher/teacher of the homeless.

In years gone by, he spent Tuesday and Wednesday nights in cooking for and feeding the homeless and addicted in downtown Houston as part of the effort started by the Impact Church of Christ and Bammel Road Church of Christ. After cooking and feeding, he studied the Bible with them and baptized many. As part of that effort, Gregory and Cecil, one of the many homeless men Gregory baptized and grew to love, started a construction company. The aim was to give those homeless and addicted a vehicle and road back by teaching and training in building skills. Their intentions were Christ driven and Gregory loved those guys and girls. Money, vehicles, and equipment were given for the effort, and various projects were started and completed successfully. But the insidiousness of the addictions overwhelmed the limited resources.
After Hurricane Harvey, Gregory put his efforts into helping homeowners get back whole … some paid, some bought material, some Gregory did himself. He just did it, and he is missed.
There are a number of sins that could be substituted for adultery. All are perversions, burdens, and afflictions of life, body, and soul. All lead to death and, if not for the Master Physician, eternal death.
“A woman caught in adultery was brought to Jesus and they said, ‘Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. In the Law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now, what do you say?’
Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, ‘If anyone of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.’
Again, he stooped down and wrote on the ground.
At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there.
Jesus straightened up and asked her,
"Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?'
'No one, sir," she said.'
'Then neither do I condemn you,' Jesus declared. 'Go now and leave your life of sin.'" John 8:3-11
This experience showed us the beauty of Gregory’s health care workers at Methodist Hospital Willowbrook, who probably knew it was a vain effort to save him. Massive damage to the digestive tract, kidneys, liver, brain and heart. In spite of doubts about the hope aspect, the health care workers spent seventeen days, around the clock to save Gregory. We lived with faith, hope, and love (charity). Heart failure brought the end. As long as our child lived, we prayed. Now that he is dead, we praise God from whom all blessings flow.
“While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept; for I thought, Who knows, the Lord may be gracious to me and the child may live. But now he is dead; why should I [continue to] fast? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him [when I die], but he will not return to me.” 2 Samuel 12:22 AMP
