Mercy Corps

This September, the Sigma Nu brothers of Davis, CA will be backpacking 100 miles of the John Muir Trail from Bishop to the summit of Mt. Whitney. Our annual Trekking for the Troops philanthropy symbolizes the hardships many individuals face across the globe due to conflict, climate disasters, and poverty. After the incredible support we received last year, we’re excited to continue this powerful tradition.

This year, we’re proud to partner with Mercy Corps, a global humanitarian organization working in over 40 countries to help people survive crisis, recover, and build better lives. All proceeds from this year’s trek will go directly toward Mercy Corps’ efforts to deliver food, clean water, emergency aid, and long-term solutions to communities in need.

Trekking is one of several philanthropic events our Davis chapter organizes each year. It’s a meaningful way for us to live out Sigma Nu’s values of love and honor while striving to make a real-world impact.

A devastating catastrophe is unfolding in Ukraine, threatening lives and driving families apart. Millions of Ukrainians have been forced out of their country.

We have a goal to raise 10k dollars for Ukrainian refugees! Every single dollar you donate will go to Mercy Corps “Crisis in Ukraine”

Mercy Corp is a non profit based out of Portland Oregon. They currently are on the ground in Ukraine, Romania, and Poland. They are providing funding to local organizations to best meet the needs of the community and also working to meet urgent humanitarian needs. They work along side with other non-profits including Airbnb.org fund, supporting Ukrainian refugees.

Mercy Corp has been recognized as an excellent steward of resources and over the past 5 years 86% of its resources has went to people in need.

This gives Mercy corps an “A” rating on charitywatch.org and puts them in the top rated category.

Bourbon has brought together many people and it has also raised a lot of money for good causes! Let’s do it again!

As I type this description up, I’m in my office, sitting in an ergonomic chair, on high speed internet. I’m not worried where I’m sleeping tonight, where my next meal is coming from, if my loved ones will be killed during war, or if the sovereignty of my country will continue to exist in the coming days. We are all blessed, so let’s help out some people who are going through the hardest time in their life! A little bit of money from a lot of people can go a long way!
