M.E.N.D. Denver Chapter
My name is Kimberly Adams and I am the Director for the Denver chapter of Mommies Enduring Neonatal Death (M.E.N.D), a Christian, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that lends support to families mourning the loss of a child from conception through infancy. I first came to M.E.N.D. in July 2006, in Houston, after 3 losses in a row, desperate to find others who didn’t think I was crazy. I found a community of women who gave me permission to grieve and the hope that one day life wouldn’t look so dark. After a job move brought us to Denver in 2016, I am excited to be able to finally bring MEND to Denver.
To do that we need to raise $1750 to cover start-up expenses for our chapter. I would be grateful for your support in meeting this goal so we can begin offering support to the families of the Front Range as soon as possible.
A little more about my family....my husband and I are blessed to have 5 beautiful children here on earth a daughter, Caroline (15) and 4 boys, Joshua (11), Weston (9), Colton (6), and Levi (2). I am also the mommy of 7 angel babies in Heaven. Four due to early miscarriage, and three boys, Benjamin on 2/14/06 at 17 weeks, Jonathan on 9/08/11 at 15 weeks, and Lane on 1/22/18 at 12 weeks, all to causes unknown.
Organizing a M.E.N.D. chapter takes more than one person, and I am so grateful the Lord has brought me two incredible women, with a heart to serve other mommies, to be Assistant Directors for the Denver chapter of M.E.N.D.
Whitney Zolna is the mommy of Isabel Charlotte, who unexpectedly gained her angel wings on October 17, 2017, due to complications from heart surgery to treat multiple congenital heart defects (CHDs). Her husband, Jake, and her found God to be their greatest comfort during such a difficult and traumatic time in their young lives. They feel through the life and loss of their beautiful daughter, Izzy, God has called on her to help support other families who have experienced the unimaginable by laying their sweet babies to rest.
Brooke Grenemeyer and her husband, Dan, were married in May of 2009. Since they’ve known each other since high school, they decided to start their family shortly after getting married. They started to realize that they may need help after trying for about a year, and sought out the help of a Reproductive Endocrinologist in September of 2011. Before beginning treatment Brooke found out that she got pregnant naturally in March of 2012. Her first of 4 losses was Mothers Day weekend, 2012. Through the next 5 years, they pursued the dream of their family through fertility treatments and suffered 3 more losses. They are now the proud parents of their first baby here on earth, a beautiful baby girl named Carys.
M.E.N.D. provides an open environment where everyone can share in a way they feel most comfortable. No one is rushed and no one is made to stick to any particular subject. Every circumstance receives the same respect. Many people have been affected by the loss of a baby, either their own child, grandchild, niece or nephew or a friend's baby. In the U.S., 1 in 4 pregnancies end in the loss of a baby. M.E.N.D. makes a significant impact on supporting parents that have lost children. Please consider walking alongside parents like myself.
Since M.E.N.D. was founded in Dallas in 1996, it has comforted thousands of families all over the world. We have 9 chapters around the United States, with our chapter, that serves the greater Denver Area. We have already gathered a core group and are anxiously awaiting the opportunity to support our community in this way. As with other groups in M.E.N.D., we plan to be contacted by several new families each month. We aim to be a source for grief support through churches, funeral homes, doctors, various women’s groups and every major hospital in Denver and the surrounding cities.
M.E.N.D. is made possible by donations from our community and through your support, we can continue to provide fellowship and services to hundreds of families who mourn via our support group, gifts and services, such as:
• Providing a support group for grieving parents and family members to get the support they need in the days, months and years after losing a precious baby.
• Sending care bags to those who have lost their babies, which include: a book on infant loss, a journal, and many helpful resources pertaining to their particular loss.
• Hosting ceremonies for families, including our annual A Walk to Remember in October (Pregnancy and Infant Loss Month), and a special Christmas Candlelight ceremony free of charge for all who attend.
• Supplying free literature (books, pamphlets, etc.) at our support group and mailing out these resources to any grieving family who contact us.
• Conducting seminars for Labor and Delivery nurses, social workers and clerical staff, to coach them in offering comfort and support to patients experiencing the pain of such loss. Providing services to hospitals to review their communication and service procedures in cases of infant death and to propose new policies.
• Supplying a free, bi-monthly newsletter, which contains helpful information, comforting thoughts, and a chance for parents to share memories, poems and special tributes to their babies.
• Speaking engagements at women’s groups to inform and help educate women on how to comfort their friends and family who experience miscarriage and infant loss.
• Sending flowers to families to commemorate the birthday of the baby/babies they have lost.
• Assisting and educating funeral homes in the Austin area as they serve bereaved parents.

M.E.N.D. is 100 percent funded by donations so any gift you give will help to ensure that we are able to begin providing grief support and fellowship for families who experience the loss of their babies. M.E.N.D. never charges the families or hospitals for the services we provide, so donations are the only way we can begin to operate.
