COVID-19 Neighborhood Ultramarathon - June 27
Can you believe it? In the Maplewood-South Orange school district, children will have had 66 days of online and remote instruction by the end of the school year. You have been doing an awesome job homeschooling your kids and we want to commemorate the occasion by running an ultramarathon for charity. Why an ultramarathon you might ask? Easy. Nearly all endurance races in which we had planned on participating have been cancelled but we still would like to put our training and endurance to good use. Therefore, on June 27 we will run one mile for every day that school was online to support MEND and the important work the organization is doing in Essex County. We are hoping to raise $100 for every day that kids were not attending school in person this academic year; a total of $6,600!
Want to join us in making a difference? We are raising money to benefit Meeting Essential Needs With Dignity Inc (Mend), and any donation will help make an impact. Families across the world have been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. In the US, more than 30 million workers have lost their jobs and unemployment may reach 25% by the summer. In Maplewood and South Orange the needs are ever growing, too. Thanks in advance for your financial contribution to this cause.
MEND Meeting Essential Needs With Dignity Inc works to end hunger in Essex County by supporting an interfaith network of 20 food pantries. MEND provides fresh and healthy food, funds, volunteers, and a forum for all member pantries. MEND advocates for policies to eliminate food insecurity and to improve the quality of life for those in need in Essex County.
Thank you for your generosity and support,
- Steve & Alex
Race Details: We will run a 1.8 loop starting at 8am on June 27 from our aid station located in Alex's driveway in Maplewood. In order to preserve social distancing, we will run separate loops - one of us running clockwise and the other counterclockwise, until we reach a combined total of 66 miles - and expect to finish our run by the middle of the afternoon. Assuming technology is on our side, we will post updates to social media and maybe provide Facebook Live updates. More details to follow.
