Medical Detection Dogs

• Dogs have been trained to recognise & quickly detect deadly diseases like cancer in the early stages, giving people a better chance at beating the disease.

• Some dogs alert owners when they are in danger of a medical issue related with their disease.
• Dogs of people with Diabetes help by alerting when blood sugar levels are getting dangerously low. They can also detect changes in people with Addison's disease, Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (PoTS), and more.

• It's not just diseases that they can help with. Some people have extreme allergies, like a nut allergy, and their dogs can tell them if food or packaging has traces of nuts that could trigger a reaction.

Our good friend Steph has been diagnosed with PoTS (postural Tachycardia Syndrome) , Epilepsy and is under diagnosis for EDS (Ehlers Danlos Syndrome). A group of Steph's oldest friends and teachers from prep school have come together to raise money for a charity of Steph's choice (Medical Detection Dogs) which could help her and other people with similar illnesses. “With their amazing sense of smell our dogs are trained to detect minute changes in blood sugar levels and other hormone-related odour changes. When these levels fall or rise outside the normal range the dogs will warn their owner, get help and fetch any vital medical supplies” Medical Detection Dogs .

We have decided to run half a marathon in aid of this charity. This will be taking place on Sunday 9TH AUGUST
