Hello friends and colleagues,

We are deeply saddened to hear about the current dire situation with COVID in India. Being of Indian descent and having grown up in India ourselves, this new phase of the pandemic has impacted us in its own way. Let these numbers soak in for a moment:

·       350,000 people in India are being reported as testing positive for COVID daily
·       More than 3,000 people are being reported dying from COVID daily
·       A very small minority (about 2%) of the population has been vaccinated
·       Oxygen supplies are critical shortage
·       Hospital and ICU beds are unavailable in most parts of the country
·       Crematoriums are running non-stop, around the clock, as deaths continue to rise exponentially

It is likely that the above numbers only tell part of the story and the true magnitude of this crisis in India is significantly higher perhaps even by a factor of more than 10.

We thought long and hard about how we can help during these toughest of times in India, and it was clear to us that thinking and reflecting are just not enough. We must do more. We have chosen to raise funds for an organization we are deeply connected to and trust, Manav Sadhna, and their COVID relief efforts. Together with your help, our contributions can help make a small difference in the lives of others. What is Manav Sadhna?

Manav Sadhna is a 501c3 Non-Profit charity organization found at Mahatma Gandhi’s home in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. What is Manav Sadhna doing for COVID relief?

In response to the dire second wave of COVID-19 that is currently devastating India, Manav Sadhna is beginning Phase 3 of their COVID relief efforts to serve the city of Ahmedabad, India. They are working towards three key needs: 1) providing medical facilities, supplies and medication to save lives; 2) distributing grocery kits to the vulnerable and marginalized; 3) promoting awareness and education in under-resourced communities about COVID safety, treatment, and vaccinations. Why did we choose to support relief work being done by Manav Sadhna?

One of us (Saumya Shah) spent an entire summer volunteering at Manav Sadhna a few years ago. During this time, Saumya spent time with the grassroots elementary education programs in the slums of Ahmedabad, India. She also conducted home visits to increase education about vaccinations as well as improve health literacy and hygiene. Saumya saw first-hand the real impact Manav Sadhna makes on the surrounding underprivileged communities they serve in, with 100% of all funding and help they receive going directly towards their mission and projects.

The Jai Jagat show is a celebration of Mahatma Gandhi's life and message, performed by 17 underprivileged children from the Manav Sadhna Organization in Ahmedabad, India.



The Show
The Jai Jagat Show is a 90-minute dance, drama and musical production sharing Gandhiji’s message of love and service with a hope to inspire the audience to actively help shape a brighter tomorrow for our planet. The show incorporates various inspiring hero’s stories from around the world like: Gandhiji, Malala, Wangari Mathai, Masahisa Goi, Yusra Mardini, and others.

The Jai Jagat Show and Journey is an experiment to touch the lives and spirits of 17 underprivileged children from the NGO Manav Sadhna (based in the Sabarmati Gandhi Ashram) through the mediums of dance, music, performance, and most importantly, love. Through this journey we hope to spread seeds of goodness and compassion in the lives of our kids and throughout the world.

In 2002 and 2012, Manav Sadhna created similar-spirited shows that toured across America and the UK, inspiring tens of thousands of people across the globe to become agents of service to their communities. Many of the children from these previous shows and tours are now coordinators and teachers giving back to their local communities or pursuing higher academic goals.
