Lung Cancer Foundation of America

In Janurary of 2008 my life and my families lives changed forever. My mom, Laurie, was diagnosed with lung cancer. I remember how unfair I thought this was, as she had never smoked before in her life. Why her? She was the strongest person I had ever met. She took this head on and she fought. Unfortunately, the cancer spread to her brain as the months went on. She passed on November 18, 2008.      

To this day, going on 10 years, I still remember the feeling I felt that day while I was walking to basketball practice and my coach telling me and my twin brother “Your Uncle is here to take you guys home.” All I could think on the way home was this cannot be real. Earlier that morning, I was rushing to get to school and didn't even get the chance to tell her that I loved her. To this day, I still regret that.

In the days, weeks, and months after her passing I could not believe the amount of love and support my family showed. My mom knew so many different people from her work at Blue Cross Blue Shield, being an adjunct professor at SUNY Brockport, and all the different volunteer work she had done throughout her life.

This fund is going to The Lung Cancer Foundation of America, whose main focus is on research. I wanted a Lung Cancer charity that focuses on research because I am hoping for a cure so people do not have to go through the hurt that my family has gone through. This donation page will end on November 18, 2018, ten years after she passed as a memorial to her.

Everyone always says time heals all wounds, but this wound still hurts. Speaking on behalf of my brother, sister and dad: we love you mom and think about you everyday ❤️
