the great Jourdan Avenue heist
On Friday, March 19th, lowernine.org's storage container was broken into on Jourdan Avenue. Hundreds of pounds of building supplies stored in the container for future residential rebuilds were taken. The culprits have not been apprehended, and the supplies have not been recovered.
We are asking for your support in raising capital to cover this loss. Our 501(c)(3) nonprofit relies on both volunteers and donated materials to rebuild the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans, which was devastated by Hurricane Katrina nearly 16 years ago. The commercial value of these materials was approximately $12,000 - enough soffit to build seven new homes, or repair up to twenty. While we do have video evidence of the theft recorded by a neighbor, and have submitted this evidence to the NOPD, we are doubtful that the supplies will ever be recovered.

lowernine.org's mission is to rebuild the Lower Ninth Ward and step up where other relief programs fell short. We honor Black homeownership above all else, though our recent work during COVID has expanded to include a food security mission as well. It is imperative that we continue to work in the preservation of this community, and of its great cultural and historical significance.
