About Long Island Scottish Festival and Highland Games Corporation
The Long Island Scottish Festival and Highland Games is an annual celebration of Scottish heritage. Held on the grounds of Old Westbury Gardens in Old Westbury, NY, the festival attracts approximately 7,000 attendees each year. Scottish culture is presented through musical performances featuring bagpipes, singers and bands; displays of highland and country dancers; competitions of traditional highland heavy athletic games, such as the throwing of the caber; explorations of ancestry among the Scottish family clans; and lectures on Scottish culture, books and other related topics. Attendees can also taste traditional Scottish foods such as haggis and meat pies, and can shop among vendors offering a range of Scottish products, including kilts. Children can also participate in appropriately-aged versions of highland athletic games and see roving magicians and puppeteers. Overall, the event is the largest Scottish cultural and family event on Long Island.
