Hi, I’m Lisa Duke, and I’m raising funds for a sweet little dog in the care of Lizzys Lodge Inc, an incredible organization dedicated to rescuing and recovering abandoned, abused, and homeless companion animals.

Found chained to a tree at an abandoned place in the woods, poor little Dori was likely intended to be used as a bait dog (dogs are used as live bait in the unspeakably depraved world of training fighting dogs). The chain on her neck weighed twice as much as she did.

Her suffering was immense: she had likely been without food and water for 4-5 days and was covered with ticks and fleas. A few days after she was rescued, she was transported from North Carolina to Lizzie’s Lodge Rescue in Maryland where she spent two months recovering with one of their fosters until she was ready for adoption. Despite her cruel treatment, Dori is very sweet and loving. She is incredibly smart, listens well and is eager to learn. Even though she was starved, she isn’t food aggressive, but will go to great lengths to snag a treat. Not surprisingly, Dori is cautious with new people but she warms up quickly. She is very affectionate and really wants to please her person.

A young couple planned to adopt darling Dori, however just before the adoption was completed, she suffered sudden cervical pain and hindlimb weakness. The trip to an emergency veterinary hospital revealed multiple disc changes, so she was referred to a neurologist for further evaluation. An MRI and further tests indicated a herniated disk, hemorrhaging and spinal cord bruising, which required immediate decompressive spinal surgery as her only option for recovery. The surgery was successful and she is now recuperating in a Lizzy’s Lodge foster home. It will take time and rehabilitation for her to regain mobility in her back legs. The planned adoption will be completed when she has recovered.

This emergency has created enormous bills for Dori’s diagnostics, surgery, upcoming medical visits and physical therapy. Our goal is to raise $5000 for this sweet, spirited little girl.
