Biking for Barbi: A Ride Against Cancer
Biking for Barbi...
Almost 6 years ago, my dear sweet sister Barbi was taken from us. She valiantly struggled with stage 4 Renal Cell Carcinoma, Kidney cancer. She totally lit up the lives of everyone that was blessed to come into contact with her. She had many friends that were in her life for over 50 years.
While she was battling this illness, she wrote a blog sharing thoughts with the world. Her words were powerful.
She became involved with a charity called Lemons of Love. This wonderful organization sends Chemo Care Packages to those diagnosed with cancer. The care packages are filled with items that are carefully selected to help with the side effects of chemotherapy, as well as items that just add a little extra love.
On July 20th, I am embarking on an adventure. I plan on riding in an event called RAGBRAI. This is the Register's Great Bike Ride Across Iowa. This is the 51st year of this event...my very first.
The event takes place over 7 days and is 430 miles on a bike. This year's event will have 20,000 riders. Yes...20,000!
My motivation is the memory of my very dear sister. She is missed by all that knew and loved her!
Please make a donation in memory of this incredible person that was taken WAY too soon. Losing a sibling, particularly a younger sibling, is truly tough.
Your contributions are going to a wonderful organization.
It provides something very special to those going through a terrible time in their lives.
My hope is to complete this ride...at times that I will find myself struggling...I will think of my baby sister Barbi to keep me going!
Thank you so much, in advance.
